Position Overview
The Livestock Crew Member supports the daily care and management of Carnation Farms’ livestock program, including beef cattle and sheep. This role is responsible for maintaining high animal welfare standards, supporting pasture-based grazing systems, and assisting with livestock health, infrastructure, and operations across the farm.
Working closely with the Livestock Manager and agriculture team, the Livestock Crew Member helps implement regenerative livestock practices that support soil health, ecosystem resilience, and responsible food production. This role requires comfort working outdoors in all conditions and enthusiasm for hands-on animal care.

Key Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
1. Livestock Care & Animal Welfare
- Provide daily care and monitoring of livestock with high animal welfare standards.
- Observe animals for signs of illness or injury and report concerns promptly to the Livestock Manager.
- Assist with routine health procedures including vaccinations, hoof trimming, and other preventative care.
- Ensure animals have access to clean water, minerals, and appropriate pasture conditions.
2. Grazing & Pasture Management
- Rotate livestock through pasture systems on a regular basis to support regenerative grazing practices.
- Set up, move, and maintain portable electric fencing.
- Assist with pasture monitoring and management to maintain animal health and forage quality.
- Support flood contingency planning and livestock relocation when needed.
3. Farm Infrastructure & Equipment
- Inspect and maintain livestock facilities, fencing, and equipment.
- Assist with repairing fences and maintaining pasture infrastructure.
- Support predator management practices to protect livestock.
4. Livestock Handling & Farm Operations
- Assist with safe movement of livestock on foot or using livestock trailers.
- Support transportation of animals both on-site and off-site when needed.
- Assist with occasional on-site animal harvest activities.
- Maintain livestock-related inventory including cold storage and freezer management.
5. Recordkeeping & Farm Collaboration
- Help maintain records related to livestock production, health, and regulatory compliance.
- Work collaboratively with the agriculture team to support livestock scheduling, grazing plans, and daily operations.
- Participate in occasional farm tours or guest interactions that include livestock education.
Qualifications
Experience & Skills
- At least 1 year of experience in animal husbandry, livestock management, or agriculture preferred, though motivated candidates without this background may be considered.
- Interest in pasture-based livestock management and regenerative agriculture.
- Comfortable driving trucks, trailers, and farm equipment or willing to learn.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to animal welfare.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to follow instructions while problem-solving in dynamic farm environments.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Comfortable working around large livestock animals.

- Valid driver’s license required
